Learning to love your sales and marketing people

There's a common paradox in creative businesses. Creative people want time and autonomy. We yearn for the freedom to produce work that we believe in. Meanwhile, the business needs quick results and accountability. It needs revenue and, if it doesn't get it, it needs to know why. Most of all, it needs sales.

For some of us, the notion of considering profit is akin to the death of creativity. Unfortunately, without it, we don’t get paid. For creative businesses to succeed there needs to be a balance.
